Based on request, here’s what the basics of the Moonkin’s Eclipse rotation looks like with pictures. This is the rotation for a level 80 moonkin doing single-target damage to a raid/instance boss. This is updated for the 3.3.3 content patch for Wrath of the Lich King. For more info on the basics of moonkin, please see my previous “how to moonkin raid PvE” post here.
First, lets look at Murmur’s Recommended rotation from the Balance 101 thread: I’ll copy & paste ..read the full article

After an outstanding, record breaking January here, along came February.
There is a reason we tend to travel in February. Even in California February tends to be a chilly, gray month. Work also tends to ramp up as certain departments finally sober up from the holidays and start making demands, leading to long hours at the office. Werner Herzog could no doubt express the feeling February sometimes has better than I can.
So things settled down to the normal routine here, with ..read the full article

The worst possible thing to happen to a MMO player is getting their account hacked. All the work that you put in to your account can be gone and the process of getting your character and items back is a painful and long process. Companies of course take steps to protect customers like Blizzard’s Authenticator for World of Warcraft but recent events show that even these aren’t fool proof.
The Authenticator for WoW has a reputation for being hack proof and ..read the full article
Normally when a MMO game reaches the open beta phase of its development cycle, it is pretty close to the version that will be released, minus a few changes and bug fixes. However it seems that Star Vault, the developers behind Moral Online, have decided to go into open beta while the game is no where near a complete product. Mortal Online entered the open beta phase a month ago today on Feb 1st 2010.
To me an open ..read the full article

So, you just hit 80 and want to be a moonkin raider? Great! Lets get started.
First, you have to be aware of how many great resources there are for new moonkin players, such as the Balance 101 guide on WoW.com. Murmur’s guide covers a lot more than what I’m going to talk about here, and he covers it in greater detail. I am also including lots of links in this post to places where other people explained things, so if ..read the full article

Watching Jesse Schell’s DICE2010 presentation about recent trends in game development – which took as its subject matter the unexpected popularity of Facebook’s “social” games and the external reward boom (unlocks, achievements, increased focus on the “score” for gaming generally) – I started to have a think about our Gaming Made Me series. I don’t think there were many mentions in there of “I just got hooked on the points system,” and I wondered if that would be different if ..read the full article

Trojan succesfully hacks Authenticator Protected AccountsA new virus spawned on the internet a few days ago and seems to be the first trojan capable of hacking a WoW account protected by an Authenticator. It was confirmed by Blizzard a few hours ago. Quote from: Kropacius (Source) After looking into this, it has been escalated, but it is a Man in the Middle attack.

This is still perpetrated by key loggers, and no method is always 100% secure.
Basically, what the virus does ..read the full article
Yesterday I finally managed to wiggle my way into some instances in EQ2 – the first time I had actually gotten to explore the Sentinel’s Fate areas on live servers. My group first headed to the Erudian Library which is one of the easier zones included this expansion and also one of the most fun. Players get to figure out which NPC murdered another (and where, and with what) and accuse them of it. If you guess right, you get ..read the full article

One major aspect in the World of Warcraft is mining. Just like the real mining scene, this activity is intended to find and dig minerals, ores, stones and other node resources. It is actually one profession in the world of Azeroth. In addition it is considered a primary one.
Mining is in fact an important aspect in WoW. The materials that a player can get are in fact useful to create other regents and recipes for other professions. This was ..read the full article
Sundays are for considering whether you can talk Quinns into being a punching bag in Starcraft 2 again, sipping tea and compiling a list of fine (mostly) games writing we collected across the week, resisting the urge to link to pop music, no matter how much the urge compels me. Must… no… fail… again.
Tom Armitage writes about his annoyance with positive mainstream reviews of Heavy Rain, but applying generally to any game they get excited by. In short – always ..read the full articleI have been a Netflix subscriber for a number of years now.
I like to browse through their selection and add things to our queue that I might like to watch some day. There are well over 100 titles on our list.
I try to keep at least some of the top of the queue dedicated to things both my wife and I will enjoy, but I do not farm the queue constantly, so once in a while something I put on ..read the full article

This week’s bucket is early, because I am away in Birmingham seeing a bunch of friends I have not seen in FAR TOO LONG (XxX) this weekend, so you have even more time to consider these impulse purchases. As always, more of this kind of thing can be found at SavyGamer.co.uk. (more…)

There were 2 questions relevant to druids in the latest twitter #blizzchat.
Q. Is there any ETA on tree / moonkin form graphical update? A. Moonkin is hard because Moonkin players are so in love with that form. It’s tough to change it at all. We currently hope to do a new tree form for Cataclysm, but no promises.I think what moonkin would like more than a complete revamp is just color customizations of the already existing forms. A quick re-color ..read the full article

The free character server transfer service has been a great success since we made it available to all our players back in December and there is no doubt that many of you have benefitted from it, whether to find a new home server or simply to do a little Spring cleaning amongst your hordes of alts!
We extended it once already until the end of February, allowing many more Heroes and Villains to server-hop and ..read the full article
February 2 saw the release of two MMORPG. Both have subscription fees, both offer PvP and PvE content, they include guns and are set in science fiction universes. The similarities pretty much stop there. Cryptic Studios’ Star Trek Online is geared to satiate the hungered trekkies out there, while Hi-Rez Studios hopes to appease the Team Fortress 2 crowd. The main content, philosophies and core mechanics couldn’t be more different.

Since we’re probably not doing a Wot I Think, I thought it worthwhile to point everyone in the direction of Boy Wonder Quinns’ Eurogamer review of Napoleon: Total War. Wherein he starts like this…
So, Napoleon finally gave me the battle I wanted from Empire.
And continues in an agreeably histrionic historical vein.
