November 1-2 - Day of the DeadThe Day of the Dead is a new mini world event added to the game with Wrath of the Lich King. Let's just say it's the Pirate's Day with a few more things, including a temporary companion pet : Macabre Marionette.

But first, you will most likely want to complete Dead Man's Party.

Go to any graveyard, preferably the one of your faction's capital city. (We'll get to that later) Dance with Catrina here. (Screenshot) That's it!

So, it’s Halloween today and the last day of the Hallow’s End holiday.

Did you get everything you were hoping for? Or, did you get beaten by the bad luck monster?

I finished the meta-achievement on my druid a long time back, but I didn’t finish everything on my shaman. I did, however, find looting candy buckets as a very effective way to work on leveling up my shaman alt a bit when I had time…

The Site

I’m now fully a month into the fourth year and I still manage to pollute the blogosphere with 20-25 posts a month, many of which contain a “TL;DR” amount of text.  I am surprised I have kept going this long.

Of course, we are at a bit of a crisis point, what with the main thread of the blog, the instance group, at something of a crossroads.

On the other hand, I have apparently not mined out the rich vein of ..read the full article

I love reading my RSS in the morning, and watching twitter to see what everyone is up to. Everyone has such unique opinions and ideas, and their game play follows that. Most of the time people are talking about games that I don’t currently play, but I can live vicariously through them and play in a certain manor of speaking.

Everyone has been talking about three RPGs lately that are coming out (or have already come out). If you’re into games ..read the full article

So you’ve just recruited a new healer and need to integrate them into your healing line up. The question a lot of people have is how do you do this effectively? Well, it will obviously be different a little bit for every guild but I’d like to offer up some tips

As a Leader

Communication

Probably the most important thing you can do is talk with the new person. Make sure they understand the rules of the raid if there are any. If ..read the full article

I admit, I do like this screenshot.

Just a hyper-quick post on this, as it had somehow slipped my mind. The recently-released Superhero MMO Champions Online is free to play this weekend. All the details are here, including their Blood Moon Halloween event. And if you want a taste of what it’s like, here’s our What I Think. Who’s still playing Champions? How’s it changed since then?

Red, black and grey are the best of colours.

Michael Todd of Spyeart mails to mention he’s thrown a beta-vertical-slice-thingy of his game online. It’s clearly the three-level IGF demo sort of thing, which I had a quick play at now, and find it quite promising. It’s an indie RTS with a psychonauts-esque theme and a striking art style which reminds me of one part 3D Ant Attack and one part a gothy-iconic comic an Ex of mine used to really like whose name currently escapes me. Oh – ..read the full article

Seven years ago to this very day, uber-Half-Life mod Natural Selection was released. Man! Aliens! Man vs aliens, in a real-time-strategy-in-an-FPS-perspective kinda way! In that time, it’s become something of a landmark in terms of just how far you can stray from the source technology (pun not necessarily intended), just how successful a group of a have-a-go home designers can be, and quite how much prescribed concepts of first-person-shootage can be pushed. Developers Unknown Worlds Entertainment are gearing up for ..read the full article

On this Friday afternoon, I had this little musing whilst zoning out on my break from work.

When I was much more PvP-oriented, I would run Battlegrounds with guildmates.  We would throw a small group of three or four people together and queue up for whatever we could.  Endless chains of Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch, and other maps followed.

In those days, I had a tendency to get heated at “that player.”  I’m sure that as you read that, you already had an ..read the full article

I get notes from Turbine every so often about offers and upcoming events related to Lord of the Rings Online.  As somebody with a lifetime subscription, I am always “on” as far as they are concerned, and I do not mind even when I’m not spending time in Middle-earth.

The latest items in my inbox are, of course, focused on the upcoming Siege of Mirkwood expansion and the new Adventurer’s Pack, both of which will be live on or about December ..read the full article

I know as much about Live For Speed as I do about the breeding patterns of platypii (or indeed as I do about the correct plural form of ‘platypus’), but I do know that when I worked on a gaming magazine, there was a constant trickle of faintly aggressive email demands that we cover this ultra-serious racing sim. Alright! Please don’t hurt me, Mr Racing Man!

Still, it was immediately evident that this was an ambitious and accomplished project. I ..read the full article

Epic Goodness!

Blizzard has released back ground info on the Quel’Delar sword. This is an epic weapon that requires the players to find the pieces to reforge the blade. Here is the story of the famous Blade posted by Blizzard;

In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel’Serrar. One of these ..read the full article

I went and grabbed Torchlight from Direct2Drive on Wednesday night, letting the game download while I slept.

Not that it was a huge honking download.  It was just convenient for me to do it that way.  I prefer to let downloads that last more than a minute or two happen while I am away from my computer.

So the next evening I installed it to give it a try.

After about 10 minutes I realized I had been playing for an hour.  It ..read the full article

Our Blizzard overlords have decreed the following:

For Icecrown Citadel, we are implementing a spell that will affect every enemy creature in the raid. The spell, called Chill of the Throne, will allow creatures to ignore 20% of the dodge chance of their melee targets. So if a raid’s main tank had 30% dodge normally, in Icecrown Citadel they will effectively have 10%.

On Windfola our kin for the past 2 years has been Defenders of Amon Sul. As a group we have decided to merge with the larger Lotus Family and become members of their kin. Why did we decide this?

Defenders has grown and shrank over the years but maintained a steady core of players. All of us have long leveled out at 60, as have most of our alts. But while stable, we are too small to ..read the full article

Quel'Delar: The Sister Blade Quote from: Blizzard (Source) In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel'Serrar. One of these blades, which had become lost in time, was recently unearthed again by brave heroes of Azeroth. Now rediscovered, Quel'Serrar is revered once more as a mighty tool of raw power.

Its sister blade, ..read the full article
